Amazon should rather have put the equal treatment of all employees in the foreground and not their nationality. This would have been a more credible statement and would still have put the company in a good light. The message behind this would have been: if you perform, you become something with us. Completely unaffected by skin color, religion and gender.
Now I really feel like writing not only about personal branding, but also more about advertising.
